El-Rufai Alleges Uba Sani, Nuhu Ribadu Plot Abduction After DSS Airport Incident

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused his successor, Uba Sani, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, of holding a meeting where a decision was allegedly taken to abduct him.

El-Rufai made the allegation on Friday during an appearance on ‘Prime Time’, a current affairs programme aired on Arise Television.

The development follows an incident on Thursday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) reportedly made moves to arrest the former governor.

Speaking during the televised interview, El-Rufai claimed that high-level security and political figures had resolved to detain him.

“The National Security Advisor, the governor of Kaduna State and the Chairman of ICPC met, and they have decided that I must be abducted today.

“Abducted because people use arrest, they don’t know that arrest has a legal meaning.

“Arrest means a lawful activity with a warrant, the police have. Under the Police act, they can arrest you without a warrant, but every other agency must go to a judge and seek warrant.

“So when you try to take a person without a valid order, it is abduction,” he said.

PulseNets learnt that the former governor drew a clear distinction between what he described as a lawful arrest and what he termed an unlawful detention, insisting that due process must be followed by any security agency outside the Nigeria Police Force.

PulseNets obtained details that the alleged attempt to detain El-Rufai at the Abuja airport has sparked renewed political tension in Kaduna State, with supporters and critics reacting across social media platforms.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Kaduna State Government nor the Office of the National Security Adviser had issued an official response to the allegations.
