Terrorists suspected to be affiliated with Ansaru, a splinter faction of Boko Haram, have reportedly launched a deadly assault on a military base in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, leaving at least three soldiers dead and four others injured, including a member of a local vigilante group.
Details obtained by PulseNets indicate that the attackers made away with eight operational motorcycles and a gun truck during the raid, as confirmed by intelligence sources and residents familiar with the incident.
The attack was said to have taken place around 3 a.m. in Kemanji, a community located near the fringes of Kainji National Park, an area widely believed to serve as a strategic hideout for armed groups operating in the region.
A forest guard, who spoke to PulseNets on condition of anonymity due to security concerns, recounted how the assailants overran the military formation and engaged troops in a sudden burst of gunfire.
“The terrorists came directly to the military camp and opened fire on soldiers,” he said. “They killed three soldiers and injured four (three soldiers and a local vigilante).”
A local vigilante operative told PulseNets that the confrontation was not entirely one-sided, claiming that some of the attackers were neutralized during the exchange of fire.
Although multiple armed factions are known to be active within the broader Kainji axis, sources who spoke to PulseNets attributed the operation specifically to Ansaru elements, citing a pattern consistent with previous encounters between the group and security forces in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, official responses from military authorities and the Kwara State Police Command have yet to be issued.
