Resident Doctors Declare Indefinite Nationwide Strike from November 1 Over Unmet Demands
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced plans to commence an indefinite nationwide strike effective November 1, 2025, following the expiration of its 30-day ultimatum to the Federal Government over unresolved demands.
According to information obtained by PulseNets, the decision was reached after a five-hour National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Saturday, where the association’s leadership reviewed the government’s response to its earlier requests.
In a statement issued by NARD President, Dr. Mohammad Suleiman, the association said the strike had become inevitable due to the Federal Government’s continued failure to meet its commitments.
“After a 5-hour Extraordinary National Executive Council Meeting, the NEC has once again issued new marching orders to all members,”
Dr. Suleiman told PulseNets.
He explained that the council had outlined minimum demands, as well as strike monitoring directives, and reaffirmed its ‘no work, no pay / no pay, no work’ position to ensure strict compliance across all hospitals.
“The NEC has unanimously directed us to declare a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike action to commence on Friday, October 31, 2025, at exactly 11:59 p.m.,”
the NARD President added.
Sources within the association told PulseNets that the strike decision reflects the doctors’ frustration over delayed salary arrears, welfare issues, and the government’s slow implementation of previously agreed policies.

PulseNets learnt that the association had, in recent weeks, intensified consultations across its state chapters in preparation for the industrial action, should negotiations fail to yield results.
Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare is yet to issue an official response to the doctors’ latest declaration.
