George Weah Reacts as CAF Strips Senegal of AFCON 2025 Title, Awards Morocco
African football icon George Weah has reacted strongly to the Confederation of African Football’s decision regarding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.
The Confederation of African Football, CAF, stripped Senegal of the 2025 AFCON title and reassigned it to Morocco, PulseNets learned.
The decision was handed down by the CAF Appeal Board after a formal petition was filed by Morocco, PulseNets learnt.
Details obtained by PulseNets indicate that Senegal’s abandonment of the pitch during the chaotic final was interpreted as a forfeiture under competition regulations.
As a result, the Appeal Board nullified the original 1-0 scoreline and awarded Morocco a 3-0 walkover victory, officially declaring the host nation as continental champions, PulseNets reported.
Reacting to the controversy, Weah, who spoke to PulseNets through a statement released on Thursday, maintained that football outcomes must be determined strictly on the field of play.

The former Liberian leader further urged the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and other relevant authorities to act decisively to ensure justice is upheld.
“The subsequent decision by the CAF committee, taken after the match had already been concluded, should not override the authority exercised by the referee during the game,”
“Football must be decided on the pitch, not re-decided after the final whistle.”
Meanwhile, Senegal forward Sadio Mané also criticised CAF’s decision to award Morocco the 2025 AFCON title, PulseNets learnt.
